Ensure that you follow safety precautions at all times. Follow the safety precautions when climbing a ladder.

Keep the top rungs of the ladder clear, place a 2×4 in the trough to prevent the ladder from collapsing if you lean it against the trough, and only work on the roof during excellent weather. When it’s windy, icy, or wet, don’t do troughs!

Shoes with high traction are recommended. It is best not to work near electrical lines or lean over sharp edges.
